Sewa Day is an international day of volunteering where thousands of good-hearted people across the world come together to experience the joy of giving (Sewa) in its truest sense. By participating in this collective endeavour, we hope that the seeds of Sewa are watered so that acts of kindness and public service are performed more often. Sewa Day is a catalyst in making this happen.

Sewa Day will take place on Sunday 4 October 2015. Schools and companies are invited to organise Sewa Day activities during the preceding week so that everyone can participate.

Where possible we would request that all projects are organised for Sunday 16th October 2016. However, if this is not possible then we ask that you organise a project in the preceding week (9th October – 15th October 2016).

We have a team of over 30 volunteers whose role is to provide you with all the help you’ll require to have a successful Sewa Day. After you register your details, we will contact you by phone and if required arrange meetings to take matters forward. Dependent on your requirements, we will help with generating ideas for projects, advising you on how to organise projects, recruiting volunteers, generating publicity, inviting prominent persons, helping with health & safety assessments… and all the way through to the very end. We do this because we want to ensure you have a successful Sewa Day. Through this one activity, we want to encourage public spirited individuals to form a habit that extends beyond just volunteering for local causes on one day per year.

If you would like to organise a project as an organisation (school, company or charity / community group), please register and we will get in touch with you. If you would like to organise a project yourself or with some friends, then please email info@sewaday.org and we will provide more details.

Projects typically last between 2 and 8 hours. When selecting a project, we ask that you make every effort to attend for the whole duration.

Generally, you will arrive at the designated location at the agree start time. The project co-ordinator will brief you on your tasks for the day and organise teams before getting started. Your project co-ordinator will brief you on the individual requirements of your project (e.g clothing / equipment requirements)

Immediately after the event, most teams will have a post event coffee or get together. In addition, project co-ordinators and participants are encouraged to share their photos using social media websites as a way of connecting.

Photos and video footage about your project can be uploaded via free services like Dropbox (www.dropbox.com) – simply send us a link once you uploaded the file. Links should be emailed to marketing@sewaday.org

Fundraising is discouraged on Sewa Day. The ethos of Sewa Day is about volunteering and providing service without expectation.
